the training continues ...

Lately I've been feeling a little silly about my training for the 10K. Here's why:
(1) I have a forever-long training schedule.
(2) I'm not training for speed. So people wonder why I must train for a 10K if speed is not my concern.
(3) Everyone else in the entire world (okay exaggeration) is training for a marathon or an ultra or AT LEAST a half.

However, with that being said, I think training is going really great. I did the slightly late 4.5 miler yesterday and it went off without a hitch. I think I took two walk breaks, but they were in the 30-second range and that doesn't bother me at all. I was just under 13:00 pace, but that doesn't bother me (yet) either. Being slow means I ran (virtually continuously) for almost an hour making this my longest run by another chunk of minutes!

This week is a scale-back for the long run so this week all my distances are 3 miles or less. (Good thing because the weather this week does NOT look pleasant).

Don't feel bad. I am also training for a 10K. I noticed that too that everyone else in our Virtual Club is training for a marathon, but I'll get there eventually. And your 13 mile pace is not slow at all. That's my race pace, which means I train even slower than that. Keep up the great work!

There are more of us than you think. I am preparing for a 10K and plan to walk/run it. The only person I am racing against is myself and my time last year. I don't run or train for speed, I train for endurance and satisfaction.

Train for the distance you want to run. I can see where your head's at, but don't worry about it. You're training for the distance you want to run. I think better to do that, then work on speed, anyway. And if you don't ever want to work on speed who cares.

Good work banging out the 4.5 miler. Enjoy your fall back week.

Hey, I read your blog and it sort of inspired me. I'm in my first week of C25k and I'm hoping to work up to where you are eventually :o)
