10K Training - Week 2

Week 2 is so far going kind of lame-ly. Monday I did some Pilates for my strength session and felt really good and strong. But Tuesday I ran with a friend - she's not a super fast runner, but faster than me. And going out too fast wiped me out. We did 3 miles but I'm gonna guess that we only really ran half of it. So yesterday I decided to skip the cross training in favor of getting the mile-ish I missed in - so I went out planning to do 1.5 nice and easy. My roommate wanted to go, but about 7 minutes in (before we got to the 3/4 mile turnaround) she wanted a walk break. Which was fine except she never wanted to start running again. So my cross-training yesterday consisted of a half mile run and a mile walk. Oh well. Still 30 minutes I guess.

Today is a short run day (2 miles) - I'm going BY MYSELF. Hopefully 3 days in a row of running won't hurt me but it hasn't been too far mileagewise (will be a total of 4 miles)

Concerning my foot - still hurts - I didn't go to the doctor, but I did talk to a woman I work with who is an AT. It turns out my EHL (the muscle that pulls up your big toe) is REALLY tight. As in, when I stand, relaxed, my right big toe doesn't lay on the ground. So I've been working on limbering up the muscle to see if that helps. I'll keep you posted.

Screw the weeks :)

Feeling pretty good lately, regardless of a bad run and a complete abandonment of the C25K plan.

Ran Sunday and Tuesday so far this week. I'm also supposed to also run today and Saturday - not sure what I was thinking.

Starting with Sunday - I bought some inserts for my shoes, y'know, to help with the fatiguey feeling they sometimes get and the arch pain I've been dealing with lately.

... worst. idea. ever.

My feet felt normal, good even, for about 10 minutes (about normal as of late) and then they started to ache - both of them. And then it got much, much worse. I stopped to walk - pain. At this point I was wondering how I would ever get home. I couldn't imagine doing a mile on my feet walking or running. So I stopped and pulled the insoles out and tried running again just to get home faster - and my feet felt pretty darn good. Apparently they've decided to behave themselves for fear of the insoles returning.

Tuesday's run wasn't so hot - well, it was very hot, but not very successful. I never realized how warm 72 degrees could be - but I was miserable. I did 10 minutes and had to stop and walk. I ran on and off the rest of the time, never walking for more than a minute but sometimes only running like 2 minutes in between. I definitely need to get acclimatized to the heat because soon 72 will be the low for the day instead of the high ... Since I was feeling pretty lame about the run, I did a 45 minute walk with my roommates when I got home from work, too.

Yesterday I had my first experience with wallyball. Talk about cross-training. I am SOOO sore. My arms, my calves. No way running is happening today. Also Saturday's run is out as well, as I realized I am going to be in the car at 5am on my way to Nashville for a friends "destination wedding" - so I will combine those into one run tomorrow sometime. Not the plan, but at least it's still 3 runs in a week.

Sorry for the ridiculously long post that didn't say much! haha.

W?D?

I did ~ 23 minutes today, with a 1 minute walk break in the middle. Which is definitely not good considering I should be a month post-finishing, but not too bad considering my running success as of late. I forgot to go buy arch supports but didn't want to use that as an excuse - it hurt today, but I could run through it - I'm not sure if that's good or bad.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I totally support the running store thing - unfortunately, I've already done that. The shoes I run in were fitted to me, and I even went to a totally different store and got the same opinion - so if it's my shoes, I don't know what else to do. I tried to stretch out pretty good post-run and am currently ice-ing my right foot so hopefully I'll see some improvement. I will wait a couple days on the arches I get.

I need to be on a plan but I think I've exhausted c25k - I'll work up to a solid 30 over the next few weeks and then start a 10K training plan of some sort - suggestions? There aren't many races around here, but I can train for an imaginary race. My goal is to help a friend marathon train this summer so I want to be doing at least easy 3 or 4 milers so I can run every other loop with her on long runs.

It's good to be back(ish). :)

Missing Again ...

Yes, I've been missing again for a few weeks. I've been running only sporadically and with virtually no success. The first 8 to 15 minutes go off without a hitch and then the arch pain returns. I plan to buy some inserts tonite to see if they will help alleviate the problem. It's not going away with rest as I had hoped.

For anyone who's had a similar problem: do I need to wear inserts all the time in all my shoes, or only while running? I don't have low arches or anything like that and they never hurt while walking or during any other type of exercise, just running ...
